For me personally, gardening has become much, much more than a hobby. I have a degree in Horticulture, teach gardening classes, and do some garden writing. There are many different aspects of gardening that could be explored, but for today, I will focus on gardening as a whole.

Have you ever wanted to grow your own vegetables and fruits? Have the best yard on the block? Get exercise while enjoying nature’s beauty? Then gardening may be the hobby for you!

The basics to get started:

  • Pruning shears/clippers - used for basic pruning of your plants
  • Dandelion diggers - perfect for getting weeds with long straight roots, and also between narrow places.
  • Round point shovel - great for moving soil and compost, and digging holes while planting.
  • Garden hoe - chopping down annual weeds
  • Trowel - used in digging out small weeds and planting transplants
  • Gloves - useful to avoid stickers/thorns and not get as dirty
  • Land or pots with soil
  • Plants or seeds

Cost will vary based on what kinds of plants you buy. Basic tools will be around $50.
